WGSDCII™ Championship Point System |
![]() |
The word "dog" wherever used in these rules shall include both sexes, unless specifications are necessary. All points are retroactive, so that all dogs that had been winning prior to June 24, 1979, did not lose their points. Also, since most Chapters did not offer Winners Dog, Winners Bitch or Best Of Winners before June 24, 1979, the retroactive points went to all the winners of Best of Breed and Best of Opposite Sex.
- WGSDCII Championship points will be awarded to the Winners Dog and Winners Bitch at all reserved Chapter and National Convention Shows. Show results must be forwarded to the National Conformation Director and must be printed in the DIN. The Conformation Director can confirm points (or a WGSDCII Championship) awarded to a dog prior to show results being printed in the DIN if he/she has received all show results showing the points earned by that dog. The Conformation Director CANNOT confirm points awarded at a show for which he/she has not received show results in writing. Any show results or championships that have not been confirmed by printing in the DIN but are published elsewhere (e.g., in a Chapter's newsletter) MUST contain the notation that the results being reported are "unconfirmed" or are "pending confirmation."
- A dog whose championship is unconfirmed, either by printing in the DIN or in writing by the Conformation Director, may only be shown in the Best of Breed class for a period of ninety (90) days from the show at which, according to the owner's records, the dog completed its championship requirements.
- Points will be recorded according to the number of eligible dogs of each sex competing in the regular classes, according to the Schedule of Points below.
- Below are the required number of dogs, then bitches, needed to win the specified number of points. Major points are 3, 4 and 5 points.
Schedule of Points 1 Point
2 - 22 Points
3 - 33 Points
5 - 54 Points
8 - 85 Points
11 - 11- The dog awarded Best of Winners shall be credited with the number of points calculated for Winners Dog or Winners Bitch, whichever is greater.
- If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Breed, the Specials (champions) of both sexes entered for Best of Breed competition that have been defeated in such competition shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes in calculating championship points.
- If the dog designated Winners Dog or Winners Bitch is also awarded Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, the Specials (champions) of its own sex entered for Best of Breed competition that have been defeated in competition for Best of Opposite Sex shall be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the regular classes for its sex in calculating championship points.
- In counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified, dismissed, excused or ordered from the ring by the judge or from which all awards are withheld will not be included.
- No more than two (2) points (providing there are enough dogs in competition for the award of two points) can be awarded to any dog that has won Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, Best of Winners, Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed when a member of the White German Shepherd Dog Club International or any of its Chapters is the Conformation Judge.
- Any dog which shall have won fifteen (15) points shall be declared a WGSDCII Champion IF six (6) or more of said points have been won at two (2) different shows with a rating of three (3) or more points each and under two different judges. One or more of the balance of required points must be won under some other judge or judges than the two awarding the major points
- The 15 points required to become a champion must be earned from shows in at least 2 separate states. The location of the show, not the hosting Chapter, shall determine the "state of the win. One win of at least 2 points must come from a show in the second state. For this purpose, the International Convention Show (usually held on Sunday of an International Convention weekend) will be considered a win in a second state.
- No points are awarded to Reserve Winners Dog or Reserve Winners Bitch unless the Winners Dog or Winners Bitch shall be stripped of its points or not awarded its points as a result of a formally filed complaint for specific reasons.
UKC Point Calculating Schedule
The WGSDCII does allow points earned in some other Kennel Clubs or Clubs to be counted towards a WGSDCI Championship. If you show in UKC, this is how your wins there can be counted as points in the WGSDCII. To verify your UKC wins to be counted towards WGSDCII points, you can send to the WGSDCII Conformation Director any of the following:
1) a signed statement from the UKC Show Secretary verifying your armband number and your dog’s name and win(s);
2) the UKC website address along with your armband number, dog’s name and proof of win(s);
3) a copy of your wins and show results listing in Bloodlines magazine;
4) a copy of the Judge’s Book(s) showing your armband number and your armband. The Conformation Director will verify your win(s) with UKC and will verify number of dogs defeated. Results must be received by the Conformation Director within 60 days of the show OR 60 days of publication of show results either in Bloodlines or on the UKC website, whichever is later, in order for the win(s) to be counted towards a WGSDCI Championship. The maximum number of points that a dog could win at a UKC show is 5.
To earn a WGSDCI Championship, a dog must earn 2 majors, one of which can come from a UKC show but one major MUST come from a WGSDCII sanctioned show. UKC wins will be considered like the WGSDCII required second state win. WGSDCII Top Ten points can also be earned for a Best of Breed win in a UKC show. Dogs defeated in your win(s) at a UKC show can be any color German Shepherd Dog. Points toward a WGSDCI Championship are calculated by the same schedule used for WGSDCII sanctioned shows. Since UKC does not calculate points the way the WGSDCII does but rather calculates wins, those wins are converted into points in our Club. Points are calculated from UKC win(s) by the following rules:
1) If the dog is not a Champion of Record in UKC and wins Winners Dog/Winners Bitch or higher, points are awarded according to the WGSDCII point schedule depending on the number of dogs/bitches defeated not to exceed 5 points total.
2) If the WD/WB goes on to win Best of Breed, all the Champions of Record and the Grand Champions of Record of both sexes defeated shall be counted as one point each not to exceed a total of 5 points. If there are no Champions or Grand Champions entered, the BOB will get one point for earning BOB.
3) If the WD/WB earns the Best of Opposite Sex, the Champions of Record and Grand Champions of Record of same sex only defeated will be counted as one point each not to exceed a total of 5 points. If no Champions or Grand Champions are entered then Best of Opposite Sex will not be awarded any points for BOS.
4) The dog/bitch earning Best of Winners will be credited with the number of points calculated for WD or WB, whichever is greater.
5) If the BOB dog/bitch advances to group competition, it will earn one point for every breed beaten in Group. This applies regardless of group placement. For example, if there are 6 breeds competing in the Herding Group and the WGSD takes 1st in Group, he earns 5 points because he beat 5 breeds. Likewise, if there are 9 breeds competing in the Herding Group and the WGSD takes 4th in Group, he earns 5 points because he beat 5 breeds. This applies only for 1st – 4th in Group since these are the only placings awarded in UKC.
6) If a WGSD wins Best in Show or Reserve Best in Show in a multi-breed show, he earns 1 point for every breed beaten up to a total of 5 points regardless of the groups the other dogs competing came from. Example: if the GSD is the only herding breed so there is no competition in Group but the WGSD goes on to win Best in Show over 10 other breeds regardless of their group, he would earn 5 points (because of the maximum 5 point rule). Likewise for the WGSD who takes Reserve Best in Show. These points will not be considered major points.
7) If the dog is a UKC Champion (but not yet a WGSDCI Champion and so is therefore still earning points towards a WGSDCI Championship) and goes on to win Herding Group, it will earn one point for every dog/bitch defeated in Group not to exceed 5 points total. These points will not be considered major points.
NOTE: A dog cannot earn more than 5 points in one UKC show. These points can come from regular classes, group competition or Best in Show but cannot exceed 5 points total per show. Example, if a WGSD wins BOB for 5 points, wins a 1st in Herding Group defeating 9 other breeds and takes Best in Show, he still only earns 5 points, the maximum possible for one show.
Major points can be earned in UKC and applied toward a WGSDCI Championship the same way they are earned in the WGSDCII. Example: Regular Class of 5 – 5 would be a 3 point major. WGSD earning BOW will be credited with points calculated for WD or WB, whichever is greater. WGSD earning BOB or BOS are calculated the same way toward a WGSDCI Championship. Example: If the WGSD earns BOB the Champions and Grand Champions (which are equal the WGSDCI Champions or “Specials”) of both sexes that have been defeated in BOB competition, will be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the Regular Classes for that dog’s sex. For the WGSD earning BOS, the Champions and Grand Champions of the same sex only defeated in the competition for BOS will be counted in addition to the dogs that competed in the Regular Classes for that dog’s sex. For additional information on BOB and BOS see numbers 2 and 3 above. Points earned in Group or Best in Show are not calculated toward major points. Example: Two males and one female are entered in Regular Classes. No Champions or Grand Champions are entered. WD earns 1 point defeating one other male and wins BOB for an additional point (see number 2 above). Then this dog places in the Herding Group for an additional number of points, let’s say 3 points. These points cannot be added together and be considered major points. Additionally, points earned in UKC will be applied to the WGSDCII Top Ten.
NOTE: WGSDCA wins are grandfathered in from July 1, 2007 forward.
